108

Today we decided to be fish to survive the 108 degree weather. The Perlsteins graciously let us use their pool even when they are lying on a beach in Hawaii. We took full advantage of their shade and pool and wore the kids out. The only other thing that could possibly help you survive this heat is an air conditioned movie theater and fro yo! So glad my favorite girls were able to get out for a fun girls night at the movies!

Relay

This morning we hit the track at Vaca High to support Papa C and so many others in their fight against cancer. Because it was Relay for Life day it was of course 100 degrees out. That did not stop Emmeilne. She rocked it even in the heat. She did a total of 21 laps during the day at least 15 she ran with Mr. Ryan. Thank goodness he was up for running with her. We went back later in the evening to see all the in memory and in honor of lumaniaries. It is such a moving event to see all the people cancer has impacted just around us. Emmeline made a few bags in memory and honor of some special people. We managed to find her bag that she made for Dr. Chris and Papa C, but couldn't find the bags for Uncle Moon and Grandpa C. With all the money raised it stills puzzles me that there isn't a cure. I look forward to the day when there is a cure and we don't have to walk for this cause.

Tennis Camp

Today was day one of tennis camp for Miss Emmeline. Nonie filled in for mommy since I was busy setting up for Vacation Bible School and little did we know that it is a parent participation class. Sorry Nonie! Nonie was awesome to step in help, take notes, and even get some video. Emmeline was so excited to come and tell me all about it and how impressed the coach was with her. Yeah you think we might need to work on her ego??? She is ready to go out and practice tomorrow and she was even more exited to hear from Auntie Mere that in tennis you get to wear cute skirts.

Day 5

Daddy is gone at football camp and I'm not going to lie I was slightly nervous for day 5. They warned us day 2 and 5 were bad. They nailed it on day 2. It was awful. I'm going to say day 4 was a nightmare compared to day 5. I may or may not have losed it during medicine and when he wouldn't take his meds loaded all the kids in the car and starred the car and told him we were driving to the hospital and they would put in an iV. Thankfully he didn't call my bluff and in the car took his medicine. If he didn't take it I probably would have dropped him off at the hospital and let the nurses deal with it.
Day 5 he slept until 11 am. He woke up not wanting to take medicine and wanting food. That was a pretty good sign. Ice cream for breakfast and lunch hit the spot.
Once he had some calories in him he was a little better to have a discussion with. I told him he was a big boy and he could choose to not take his meds, but if it starts to hurt he needs to be big and take it right away without a fight. He went the whole day with no meds which meet no fights. He even gobbled down a bowl of noodles with butter for dinner. I'd say day 5 was cake. Let's hope the remainder of his recovery is as easy.

Pop

Today we honored an incredible person. Pop was simply amazing. He lived a life that was made for the movies. He loved his family so much and it was so nice to hear so many fun stories about Pop. Many I have heard, but some new. I don't think I will ever look at a brick or a car with cruise control with out a chuckle thinking of Pop.  And the pictures.... they were priceless. Pop had this great smile and hands. Even with the shakes, I will remember his great handshake and squeezes.  I am honored that I knew him and I am so thankful that our kids knew their Great Pop. Just a few weeks ago on Memorial Day we took the kids to visit Great Pop and told them all about Pop's story. I am so glad we were able to get a picture of him with the kids. Tonight at bedtime Emmeline broke my heart with some very tricky questions. As a parent you want to answer them all truthfully and tonight I had to tell her I don't know how some things work and why. How do you answer a child that asks how her Great Pop will find her when she gets in heaven or will Pop forget me or forget what I look like? Or I won't look the same when I see him, how will he know me? Ughhh... It was a very hard night for both of us. After crying for awhile she told me she was so afraid she would forget him. That I could finally help with. She now has a few pictures of Great Pop next to her bed and I promised I would remind her of stories and times with him, like when they use to go and play cards at Pop's bed table and the lunches and snacks on the patio. With tears in my eyes I am going to wrap up the post and say thank you Pop for being amazing. I know Chris is who he is because of great influences like you and his Dad. Pop, you are a great example of service, patriotism, and loyalty all things we hope to teach our children.

Day 2

Yep, they warned us that day 2 is bad and it for sure is no picnic. The 3 am wake up call to give medicine doesn't help. And it's pretty awful that your throat hurts so bad and yet you have to drink and swallow medicine to feel better. At 3 am when you are in pain in it really hard to understand that rationale. Today popscicles were his best friend and 7-11 slurpees make for an excellent lunch. Fingers crossed that day 3 is a little more manageable.

So long Tonsils and Adenoids

Today this little guy went in to have his tonsils and adenoids removed. We haven't had a lot of sore throats, but we have had a lot of lack of sleep, snoring, and colds. After reading up on a study done at Stanford on kids with night terrors and a correlation to enlarged tonsils we were on board and running to see an ENT.
Heading into surgery he was all smiles and I wanted a few swigs of the drink they gave him. Nothing like seeing your 6 year old drunk. Oh he was a giggly thing. Hearing him crying in the hallway in recovery was heartbreaking. The doctor came in and told us we made a good call having the removed. He went in there and found them huge and emflamed. Day one post surgery I have to say hasn't been awful, but he still has pretty strong drugs in him from the hospital. I am dreading the rest of days 2-10.

Kawasaki

Who knew that when I would be writing a post about Kawasaki that it would be about a disease and not the motorcycle??? I knew when I talked to the doctor and told him about Jackson's newest complaint of neck pain and a fever and the doctor tikd me to come down that it wasn't good. When we were in the examin room and the doctor walked us personally over to the ER that it really wasn't looking good. While in the ER we became a little bit of a show with doctors and medical students. Apparently, Kawasaki is rare and you don't see it in person very often so everyone wanted to stop by. After getting him hydrated by IV and a bed opening up in Roseville we were off by ambulance. Jackson peeked up from the IV and was excited to travel in style. Mommy was just hoping she didn't get car sick from being straped down riding backwards.

Schools out for summer

Today the twins had their last day of kindergarten! I don't know how that us even possible? It seems like just yesterday we were going for kindergarten orientation. They have had the best year. I love their teachers and the community that Alamo offers. While they are so excited for 3 recesses and eating lunch at school next year there were a few tears from both of them for missing school and their friends.
I love looking at their first and last day photos. They looked like such babies in August and now they are big kids. Oh how I wish I could freeze time!
