The Happy Island

We had a fantastic week in Aruba - also known as the happy island. It really is the happiest island. We love it here and EVERYONE is so happy and friendly. Day  1 II was about to pack my bags and head right back. When we got to the island and faced some technical difficulties. The cell phones weren't working which meant weren't able to call, FaceTime, or Skype with the kids. I'll admit it I was panicking the thought of not seeing them and taking to them for a week was unthinkable. Thankfully Chris happened to bring his laptop and we were able to Skype minus the video. Hearing their voices and hearing Jack get on and say, " Hi, Mom" melted me.
After we figured out the phone situation the trip got a little easier.
We spent everyday either at the beach or by the lazy river. Aruba has been great for people watching. we have spent the past week surrounded by our fill of New Yorkers and Jersey folks. All i can is WOW!!! I have never heard so many discussions about Yankees versus Mets, seen so much big hair, fake nails, tank tops and overly tan guys wearing big gold chains. Favorite line that we woukd hear from like 40 feet away but clear as day is "Anybody can be a Yankee Fan, it ain't easy being a Mets fan." Wish i could add the machismo, accent, and the hands flying that would be involved. as much as the Jersey people cracked us up they were all so nice and will come up and talk your ear off. there was not s meal or a day by the pool where someone didn't come up and talk our ears off. It really is so different from California where we all tend to keep to ourselves- it was refreshing! When i wasn't hearing a story about Jersey or New York i enjoyed my Kindle. Kindle and i became good friends. i finished 6 books in 7 days. I would only put it down when i was in the water or the battery died. I have forgotten what it was like to sit and read!
We met some very sweet families one from Texas who ended being our lay out buddies by the pool. Chris and the dad made it their mission to get down EARLY and claim some prime lounge chairs. Their kids reminded us of our crew and we decided next time we have to bring them. They would love the beach, the water slide, the lazy river, and all the friendly iguanas. Goodbye from the happy island. We had fun but we can't wait to see our babies!
